Posted: April 14, 2008IRS special agents to teach MBA students about tax fraudOn Friday, April 18, special agents of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Investigation Division will lead an interactive training seminar on tax fraud for a group of Coastal Carolina University business students. The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. in the Wall Center for Excellence in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. The IRS educational program, called the "Adrian Project," offers students a real-world experience in forensic accounting and introduces them to career opportunities in criminal fraud investigation.Working in groups, students in Professor Meyer Drucker's graduate tax accounting class, as well as other CCU business students, will be assigned hypothetical fraud cases. Under the instruction of IRS investigators, the students will investigate the crimes using forensic accounting methods. Hypothetical investigations include tax fraud, embezzlement, drug trafficking and other crime scenarios-one of which will involve a professor being handcuffed and arrested by students. Posted: April 14, 2008Campus Alert UpdateUpdate: 8:30 p.m. At 4:50 p.m. Coastal Carolina University officials learned that a shooting had occurred in the College Park residential community near campus. The Horry County Police Department is investigating the incident.As a safety measure for the entire campus community, Coastal President David A. DeCenzo has announced that all classes and scheduled university events will resume at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 15.The campus will be open as regularly scheduled tomorrow morning; employees are expected to report at their normal times. The university will reassess the situation tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. Tonight, campus police will be based at The Commons, the campus cafeteria, both inside and in the parking lot to provide security escort for students who need it. Students who live in College Park and would rather stay at another location tonight may call campus police at 843 349-2177. Students who may need counseling as a result of events may call campus police for counseling referrals.
