About Me

Jose O. Cotto, otherwise known as “Hyde”, winner of two Latin Grammys for best urban record, was born on December 26, 1981 en Caguas PR. He was raised in Cayey PR. And from a very young age he showed a great interest for music. In 1999, Hyde entered Puerto Rico recinto de Cayey Uiniversity, where he started his studies in Puerto Rican History. During his time in the University, his interest for music never subsided, and he continued to write and produce music to from his house in Caguas. As a result of this, Hyde makes his first apearances in some of the more popular compilations put by the first publication of Hiphop and Reggaeton in PR In The House Magazine.By the time 2001 arrived, Hyde had already launched his own underground mixtape, and began appearing in many other Hip-Hop underground tapes in the island of PR. Around mid 2002, Hyde makes the final decision to completely immerse himself in music; He abandones his History studies in the University and quickly joins SAE Institute of Tech. In Miami, where his now successfull career began to brew.During his time at SAE, Hyde showed interest, lidership and natural skill. So much so, than after only 4 months, and thanks to a recomendation from then Ritchie ( chief editor at the time of In The House Magazine), Hyde began wrorking as an engineer at The Lab Studios in Miami. And only a couple of weeks before completing the SAE audio Technology course, he takes the opportunity to work on what would become his first Grammy nomination. Working along side Grammy winning producer Echo, Hyde was part of the mix sessions for En Honor a la Verdad, artist Vico C’s latest effort. This record went on to win a latin Grammy for best Urban Record as well as achieving Gold status. In 2003, having graduated from SAE, Hyde moved back to Caguas PR. So he can work along side Echo in The Lab Studios, this time in the San Juan, PR location. During his first year since returinig to PR, Hyde is able to work on a great number of projects; some of these went on to set the trajectory of the now popular Reggaeton in a worldwide scale. These projects include; “Clase Aparte” from Yaga & Mackie, “Real“ by Ivy Queen and “Barrio Fino” from Daddy Yankee. The latter went 6 times platinum, won one billboard award, a number Lo Nuestro awards, landed a Grammy Nomination for record of the year and finally won the Latin Grammy for best Urban record of the year for 2005. The same year Hyde was nominated for two other grammys, including artist Vico C’s next effort, Desahogo. This further establishing Hyde's name as reggaeton's top mixing engineer.Currently Hyde is the Chief Engineer at El Cartel Records. And whenever he’s not mixing Daddy Yankee's hit records, he finds himself hard at work on his own. His record, to be tittle HP (HydePark), is tentatively schedule for release in 2007. But with projects like"Caribbean Connection", Daddy Yankee’s next effort “El Cartel” and his feature film “Talento de Barrio” , Arcangel's "La Maravilla", Angel y Khriz "Showtime" among many other film and television projects on his plate, who has the time. ..
