those are the styles we look forI was young when i got into this, for lack of a better term, "scene". ive dedicated more than half of my life to this scene, in the process ive learned many truths.first, that its just as fucked and shitty as any high school clique, frat house, football team or knitting circle. like ive been saying, assholes cross all boundaries. peoples egos and agendas are the primary motivation and this 'cause' i have invested much of my life into isnt as noble as i thought when i was 13.second, that this thing that we love so much isnt your personal garden to steal from. what i mean is, if you want to take you have to give. do you think these bands and shows and flyers and zines and promoters and distros grow themselves? this 'scene' most of us are a part of isnt a very lucrative one. while some of the bands we love have grown to such a level that they have the ability to support themselves, truth is, most will not. the same goes for promoters, record labels, zine authors and the like. while this 'scene' is growing in exposure and popularity, for most people it is nothing but a money pit; or as I would say, a labor of love. cheezy maybe, but truth nonetheless.what im getting at is that so many of you, yes YOU, take take take and give nothing. if everyone involved behaved in this manner there wouldnt be much of a 'scene' for you to get your grubby little paws on. what really gets me hot about all of this is that you 'scene' kids have a average life span of 5 years until you laugh about your posthumous 'punk days' at your indy-rock pointy shoe pabst blue ribbon party. that you have the arrogance to dismiss this thing that so many great people have invested days, weeks, months and years into; (and nothings more important that time. nothing.) that you just took and took until you exhausted every ounce of someone else's love and energy, that you used up every avenue for you to improve your situation until there was nothing left for you to steal and that most of all, in all of your rampant consumption you never got what this was really about.the very definition of the word trend, and never has the word POSER been more applicable."Oh but Dan, i just love music." said the scene kid.well fuck you kid.fuck you for every guy or girl that drove around this country coasting from town to town on gas fumes. fuck you for every kid who stayed up late pouring his heart and soul into words that you ate up, claimed as your own then so casually dismissed as 'that punk rock phase'. fuck you for every kid who put on a benefit show and you never knew why. fuck you for every kid who started a record label to put out their friends bands because no one else believed in them. Fuck you on my personal behalf of TheendoftheanticlimaX.Fuck you. this isnt for you. this isnt what this is about. take your scene points, your fucking ironic 'fashion', your name dropping and your thinly veiled, "but i know what you're talking abouts," back to the mall where no one will ever question your integrity. And to those who know the smells of over heated vans of unsuccessful bands. to those who put down their tear soaked words on paper and dared to sell them at shows. to those who tried to raise money for a cause. to those who clapped for the shitty opening band. to those who arent too cool to clap. to those who say thank you. to those without agendas. to those who welcome the new kids. to those who extend a hand to explain. to those who make and attempt to give back and help make this wonderful thing we are all a part of, grow.Thank you. Maybe someday You'll understand what a blessing it is to know that there are shits like you out there to serve me a big mac someday when im taking my bands to the places that you never gave them enough credit forChoke on that
