.Essex born Hazard City is an up and coming recording artist who comes from a West Indian family with a huge musical background. With his Mother being first signed at 15, his Father co-creator of ‘Jah Observer’ the biggest valve sound system in the UK if not Europe and his Great Grandfather owner of ‘Jet Star’ the world’s biggest distributor of reggae music, choosing to pursue a career in the music industry is no surprise.
His first attempt to write a hip hop track was at the age of seven but quit soon after. At the age of ten Hazard City began reciting Dizzee Rascal lyrics and developed a deep interest in music, at age 11 he began to freestyle often being asked to by older people in the local area.
In December 2006 he first started to record tracks. With not much writing experience he didn’t make much of an impression in the area until he released a diss record in 2007 aged fourteen called ‘Reply’ going at somebody four years his elder. Two months later he released probably his most successful single to date ‘Banging to the Bassline’, apart from ‘Who The Buck’ which gained over 500 myspace plays in the first twelve hours ‘Banging to the Bassline’ in particular made many realise how much talent the fourteen year old Hazard City contained. He sent the song to a show named Boodoof on Conspiracy Radio were it entered at number 10 in the chart and jumped to number 2 the following week which was crowned the biggest jump in the shows history. After six weeks at number 2 in the chart it climbed to number 1 where remained for three weeks until new management
scrapped the show from the radio. Banging to the Bassline was not only voted by UK listeners but those from the US, Canada, Bulgaria and Greece.
At age sixteen this witty lyrical assassin is just getting started having been on the same bill with the likes of Aggro, Twissman, N-Dubz, Spl2rge, Alizay, Tinie Tempah, Shizzle, NY, Bashy, Ironik, G Range and many more it seems like the only way is up. Hoping to release a self titled album in early 2010 with appearances from the likes of Dice-Frsh and JMC it looks like a breakthrough to the scene is on the cards.
Hazard City had many downloads on the Audio Fiasco Promo. Every track on the promo was written at 14 and 15 years old. Limited studio access and untrustworthy people have really stalled his attempt to gain a national audience. Having only sworn once in a track he is an artist people of all ages can listen to. He is an artist with a thirst for versatility. While current situations have not allowed him to explore different genres, he still has been branded by many an artist with a future.
