I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a graduate of the university of Houston. I a B.S. in kinesiology (the study of movement).--- I am a full time personal trainer. A good amount of my free time is spent working out. It's just what I love to do. I think fitness professionals should be held to a higher standard of education. I could get a certification at a weekend seminar. I have chosen to go above and beyond what is expected for the profession and get a 4 year degree.
Physical fitness is essential for everyone. Chronic disease is consuming America. Much of this could be prevented through proper diet and exercise. Currently, 61% of the adult population 20-74 years old is either overweight or obese. This has to change; the health care costs associated with treating obesity related illnesses are overwhelming. Did you know that nineteen million people have diabetes (90-95% of the cases are type II diabetes which is associated with a sedentary lifestyle). This disease can take up to 20 years off your life.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, is the leading cause of death in the United States. Several behavioral risk factors such as being overweight and physical inactivity are associated with the devolpment of CVD. A comprehensive review of 43 epidemiologic studies in 1987 indicated that physical activity reduces the risk of CHD (Powell KE, Thompson PD, Caspersen CJ, et al. Physical activity and the incidence of coronary heart disease. Annu Rev Public Health 1987;8:253).
I also used to be very self destructive. I have become a different person than who I used to be. I am no longer involved in that lifestyle, nor do I care to be friends with those type of people. I have goals and aspire to make something of my life. I had my own apartment for 6 years and have been financially independent for much of that time. Last year I bought a townhome in downtown.
All of that either sounds very boring to you, or it lets you know I have a direction and plan for my life. After going to about 8 different states and about 4 different countries I can accurately say: My absolute favorite thing to do is get away from Houston. I am gay, if you have a problem with that or feel the need to say something negative to me I will block and ignore you.
I am NOT into the gay/club scene. I am into watching movies and hanging out with my close friends going to crawfish boils, barb-q's or spending a weekend down at the lake house. Also, I won't try to entertain you with my personal life in my blogs (sorry to all the gossip queens). My blogs are where I post things from the news which I find important or wish to make people aware of. Also, I tend to be a realist. This means I see things for what they are. I don't try to sugar coat life or the things that I see happening in the world. I like to look for the good, but don't deny or overlook the bad. Unfortunately, some people confuse being intelligent and analytical as Pessimistic.
In June 2007, I was dignosed with cancer. I was told I had a 50% chance of living. It was stage 3 and had spread to my lungs. I went through chemo, lost my hair and had 3 surgery's. One of which involved cutting out 2 pieces of my lung. I was running 3 miles after a week of being discharged from the hospital. I am now free of cancer and working out again. I knew all the doctors were wrong; I was never ment to be a cancer statistic.
I am a personal trainer at the Houston Gym. I have worked with athletes from various sport backgrounds including competitive skydiving, sailboat racing and mountain climbing. I have also trained people with special conditions such as: sciatica and bursitis. The gym is located in the Montrose/ heights area, near I10 and Durham. If you are interested in training with me, please let me know. I will give my rates if you request them. For Directions to the facility and membership rates click HERE
If you already have a trainer, ask them if they know what a concentric or eccentric contraction is. Also, ask them what pronation and supination is. Question them about the importance of periodization in a workout plan. If they can't answer even one of these questions, they are unqualified and you should get a new trainer. Afterall, you are trusting these people with your health and you are paying them.
" I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." - Thomas Jefferson

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People who are intelligent, care about themselves and don't like to live their life in ignorance. People who want to learn new information to enhance their life. People who don't presume the evening news enlightens with them the truth. Others with the same interest in music. People who feel passionate about what they believe in. Other people from the health and fitness community.
