About Me

The Grand Rapids Rampage franchise dates all the way back to the AFL’s first game in 1987. The team as it exists today was bought in 1997, but was originally the Washington Commandos during the AFL’s inaugural season. They then became the Detroit Drive in 1988 and in 1994 were the Massachusetts Marauders for one season. Three years later, DP Fox Ventures, L.L.C. made the decision to buy an existing franchise (the Marauders) instead of purchasing an expansion team. There is only one other team still in existence with ties back to that 1987 first season – the Tampa Bay Storm (then the Pittsburgh Gladiators).
