**************************************************ROBERT D BUTTERWICK - ARTIST/PRODUCER/DIRECTOR
Embarked on a constant journey to explore the depths of the soul
A hard but honest look
Facing the good and evil qualities that make a balanced whole as an individual
An artist that is transcending this experience into our perceived world
Expressed through means of the arts
Using the alias APOLLO X, the continuous ability to overcome obstacles and cross the defining lines that we call genres, Robert D. Butterwick has been writing, composing, and performing as a musical artist sense early 1997 and more recently crossing into the art of music and video production at the dawn of the 21 th century.
After 5 years of classical training on the piano, Rob quickly discovered his new passion when he picked up his first guitar in 1995. The natural ability to play and compose music on the guitar began after only three guitar lessons and a handful of guitar magazines. In 1997 the search for local musicians led to the formation of a garage band named SPLURGE consisting of bassist Cory Wright, guitarist Rob Butterwick , drummer Peter Doelman , and singer/guitarist Nick Pooley .
In 1998 Rob and Cory teamed up with drummer Mike Palazzo and singer James Rose to form TRANZIT. Their first show was at a local high school battle of the bands in which the band placed first, marking the start of a closer artistic relationship between the members and a growing passion to perform live. After writing over 20 original songs TRANZIT went into the recording studio to make their first self titled album. At the peak of the bands career TRANZIT had played over 60 shows and opened for major recording artists FINGER ELEVEN and EDWIN leading to air time on local radio, live performances on television, and news paper coverage. TRANZIT sold 500 CD’s before heading into EMAC Studios to record what is now known as their last song “THE CALM BEFORE THE STORMâ€.
While studying the connection between art and spirituality, the need for a new approach to self expression became clear, and the tools needed to rise above the loss of a band were starting to develop. In 2002 Rob graduated from a two year course in Television Broadcasting, where he gained the skills necessary to visually express himself, and the development of a new passion for production began. The art of music recording and production was now his focus, leading him on a mission to become an artist that can stretch the boundaries of self expression.
Well learning about mixing and programming synthesizers, creating and combining drums, and the art of recording and sampling Rob began to feel the hunger to play live once again leading him to co-create the band WHERES JESUS. Equipped with singer/guitarist Scott Parker, bassist Morgan Williams and guitarist Rob Butterwick the band began to create a complex and unique sound that would earn a place in each of the band members hearts. Over a dozen acoustic rock songs were created and the imaginations and spirituality of each band member was placed into an alternating-lead style of playing. In a poly-rhythmic display of music WHERES JESUS would perform at local bars and private party’s before Scott Parker would go on to become the Pianist/Singer for MACHETTE AVENUE .
The year 2005 started, and the compilation of over 80 Hip-Hop and R&B songs marked a new era of productivity. Rob started to network with various singers and rappers to expand his musical abilities to suit his love for the different genres of music. The new tools (recording, producing, mixing, and directing) that were now more maturely developed would allow Rob to start expressing himself in a new light. After working in the studio for over a year, Rob began production on his first music video in the early months of 2006 entitled “YOU CANT BREAK ME†(written, recorded and preformed by Rob Butterwick , with singer Brad Ryckman). On March 11 th , 2006 “YOU CAN’T BREAK ME†was shot at MOE-TION PICTURES studios in COPPS COLOSIUM. Directed and Produced by Rob Butterwick for APOLLO X PRODUCTIONS in alliance with Z-[A]-P INDUSTRYS the video is a depiction of the psychological warfare that exists inside of our televisions. The video will be launched along with the official website for Apollo X Productions. On April 3rd, and 4 th of 2006, Rob was on set helping 30 SECONDS TO MARS shoot their music video “THE KILL†that would go on to win best video of 2006 on MTV2.
In 2007 a new band was formed and the political/social atmosphere created the sound of a melodic cry with a hard rock edge that would come to be known as HOSTILE FORCES. With the intent of bringing an aggressive rock sound back into the spotlight Rob Butterwick (guitar), Tony Nouragas (vocals), Luke Duncan (bass), and Jesse Vallee (drums) have been writing original songs and playing shows getting ready to head into the studio to record an album.
Rob Butterwick is currently launching his company APOLLO X PRODUCTIONS (Art using music and video as means of expression. Writing, composing, recording, mixing, sampling, performing, producing, directing, editing, animated graphic and graphic design, etc) and has a website coming soon www.apolloxproductions.com .
Working alongside Dotsy’s Entertainment, Apollo X Productions created a haunted house in 2007 located in St. Thomas Ontario. THE DUNGEON OF DOOM was open for the 2007 Halloween season (Oct 19th-31st) and scared over 1000 guests.
