About Me

Because my two "loves" are Bebop and Brazilian music I play a fairly unique style of music known as "Brazilian Jazz" or "Samba Jazz", a style that combines elements of South American Brazilian Samba & Bossa Nova with elements of North American Jazz.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.joecartermusic.com
Band Members: depending on who's available and which country, it could be bassists Nilson Matta, Bill McCrossen, Paulo Russo, Harvie S; drummers Al Harewood, Portinho, Joao Cortez, Robertinho Silva, Chris Michael; percussionists Ze Mauricio or Guilherme Franco; harmonica players Mauricio Einhorn or Hendrik Meurkens; saxophonist Tim Moran; flautist Ali Ryerson and the list goes on...
Influences: The list is pretty long but at the top is guitarist Jim Hall, then Dexter Gordon, Lee Konitz, Art Farmer, Paul Desmond, Chet Baker, Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, John Lewis, Jimmy Raney and many more that I can't think of at the moment. From Brasil: the Zimbo Trio, the Sambalanco Trio, my buddy Luiz Eca, Luiz Bonfa, Joao!, (The Master) Baden Powell, Tom Jobim (of course), Paulinho Nogueira, Sebastiao Tapajos, Rosinha de Valenca, Dom Salvador and the Assads.
Sounds Like: optimistically speaking, as if Jobim and Baden met Miles and Coltrane.
