Vulva String Quartett is the solo house project of drummer and electronic musician Hanno Leichtmann. Better known as Static, producer of clicky, avant-pop for City Centre Offices and others, he is also one third of Groupshow with Andrew Pekler and Jan Jelinek, and played drums in the Pole band. For Vulva String Quartett, Leichtmann pulls off deep basslines topped with off-key synths; blissful pop-house that is deceptively expansive. Each track functions as a framework, aural spaces that work (often) as soundtracks, fleshed out with classic electronic sounds.
The first Vulva String Quartett 12†was the (also) oddly titled Death Cab For Bootsy (As Played By), released in 2005 on the Carhartt sponsored Düsseldorf label, Combination Records. Death Cab’s glittering basslines and moody meandering later found their way into the 2005 German movie "Liebeskind". Out of Sight, the second 12â€, was released in 2006 on the same label, the burbling bass and off-beat tunes continue to elaborate on the Static project: drum-loop driven, analogue pop. The record comes with a rare remix from Jan Jelinek under his revered Farben moniker.
