About Me

Andrew and The Bassturd met each other in Chicago in 1997 while working together on a public affairs radio show called, "THIS IS HELL." www.thisishell.com Chuck Mertz hosted the program and drafted Andrew to produce it. The Bassturd was brought on by Mertz to provide color and whale on the squeeze box whenever Mertz uttered the word, "hell," which was quite often. The two parted ways when The Bassturd moved to Iowa City in 1998 to finish school. Andrew began playing frequently with a project called Stanley's Joyful Noise, and The Bassturd hooked up with an Iowa City based hip hop collective known as The Sucka MCs.Over the next few years, Andrew and The Bassturd continued participating in a number of musical projects. Andrew joined the then Chicago based OK GO and went on to record and tour relentlessly with the band. The Bassturd continued playing solo and toured occasionally. In 2001 The Sucka MCs were signed to Ace Fu Records. The Bassturd's energies for the following year or so were focused on booking tours and subsequently touring with The Suckaz, while Andrew was focused on OK GO's ever increasing exposure and touring schedule. In 2002 the duo began talking about collaborating on a project. It wasn't until the fall of 2004 that they finally hooked up in Chicago for a week of writing and recording. They capped the week by gracing an open mic night at a small pub in Chicago. In December of 2004 Sleeper Cell emerged from a basement in Chicago to play three gigs in the midwest. Realizing the impact that this infectious anti-establishment outfit could have, the two went underground and have been plotting ever since to emerge only when America least expects it. Be warned mother fuckers...
