My father used to say when people asked what was his name, "Ham like bone, brick like stone." I noticed that the marble floors in this establishment even looked like hambones...so what better name to call it.
AFTER YEARS OF TRAVELING TO NEW ORLEANS from this small rural community, looking for good times in the city, Darryl Hambrick decided to cut the trip short and open this evening entertainment place. Now the locals have a place to join him that makes them feel like they are in New Orleans. Its centrally located between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, just across the Sunshine Bridge. The crowds are always well behaved, a mix of business people, tourists and locals dancing, drinking and conversing. Donaldsonville was once the capitol of Louisiana. It is now the home of Hambonz Piano Room where after three years, proprietor Darryl hopes that more people will visit this little ole town that is centrally located between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, just across the Sunshine Bridge.
THIS SOULFUL "JUKE JOINT" does not sell pianos. Instead it is a nightclub decorated with antique pianos, photos and memorabilia from jazz, reggae and blues musicians of the past. Hambonz hosts weekly karaoke, live bands, DJ’s, and a jukebox in a setting that is uniquely Louisiana.
LOCAL PARTYGOERS ENJOY a full bar and occasional conversation with national and international tourists looking for a "bon temp" (good time). You can sign a 45 or a vinyl album and leave your mark in this Mississippi River town. Bus tours are welcome by appointment. Hambonz is a good place to host a party or tour event. Ask about the "down home blues" lunch, featuring red beans and rice with a hambone in it. The staff at Hambonz will make sure you don't go thirsty. Visit the local antique shops, museums, bed & breakfasts or a nearby plantation.
