About Me

BIO DEEKLO : Deeklo was born in 1975 in Kinshasa but moved to Belgium with his parents soon after. He has embraced both cultures but his african roots have been the dominant influence in his life. Very soon Deeklo fell in love with african music and rap when he stumbled upon GRANDMASTER FLASH, THE FURIOUS FIVE, BREAK STREET, MALCOM MCLAREN and others. It was only untill later, after hearing the compilation album RAP ATTITUDE he felt the desire to actively partake in the music scene himself. His distinct smooth baritone voice soon became his trademark and it didn’t take long for major label EMI to recognise his talent and sign him and his cowriter DOUBLE G for an album/track? called ‘Malheur et Bonheur’ which hit the charts in France. Though everything seemed fine Deeklo couldn’t express his true nature under the watchfull eye of a big commercially driven label and felt his integrity was being compromised . He broke his contract with EMI to pursue his goals quietly in the underground scene. Since then Deeklo has collaborated on a large variety of things. He has recorded with labels such as RUDE CORE (Paris) and 9MM RECORD (Brussels) amongst others. He then relocated to Canada (Montreal) for a while to collaborate with MAY BARRA PROD.INC/AM TECH DISC, a canadian independent label. Finally he came back to Belgium and moved from the Brussels scene to Antwerp. A few years later he and his friend REC DEE decided to start their own label called STARTREC. It is in Antwerp Deeklo met Rik Rosseels and the two hit it off immediately on many levels. They influence eachother with their very different backgrounds and have decided to blend their musical energy in a new project, simply called DKLO ft. BB. more info about Rik Rosseels is there for you on www.myspace.com/rik_rosseels
