About Me

James Muhammad came from humbling beginning, raised in a single parent home in one of the roughest projects, Piedmont Courts, in Charlotte North Carolina. James was the only male child born to Viola Nash, he has two other older female siblings. At a young age James was forced to deal with the harsh realities of life, with no father he was thrust into the role of man of the house. At a young age he dibbled and dabbled into the street life to lessen the heavy burden placed on his mother. Living in a low income housing development, that was drowned by negativity, young and naïve James indulged in it too. After years of facing close calls with the law and watching his childhood peers, receive lengthy incarceration, either kill or be killed on the mean streets of Charlotte, James wised up and realized there was no future for him in the streets. He wanted more out of life than the drug game had to offer, and more importantly his family needed him.Doing the unthinkable, James walked away from the drug game. Broke and facing an uncertain future James left his fate in GOD’s hands. While many of his peers in the street ridiculed him for his decision, James persevered through some tough times. Ultimately, his luck would change, James made the successful transition from drug dealer to working man, then from an employee to a book store owner. After many years of being on the retail side of the book industry, after a meeting and talking with author Shannon Holmes, James decided to become a publisher. With the first novel that he published, ‘Little Ghetto Girl’, James achieved unprecedented success. The novel caught the eye of publishing giant Simon & Schuster, which later bought the rights to the novel. After that he published other titles as well with limited success. James witnessed firsthand the trial and tribulations of the publishing industry. There was one thing in particular that bothered him, the lack of drive and professionalism by authors. Emerging from the street life, James viewed business as one big hustle. He felt in order to really succeed authors had to look at it like that and never rest on their laurels, no matter how much success they had achieved. Dissatisfied with the many authors lackadaisical attitude, James decided to try his hand at writing a novel. He figured he was just as qualified as another author in the urban genre, to write a novel. After all he lived the street life.Once again, he sought out longtime friend and confidant, renowned urban writer Shannon Holmes, for advice. Under his tutelage James began to secretly craft his own novel. After six months of hard work, James has finally achieved what he set out to do, craft a first-rate novel. Intending to set the world on it’s ear, James is planning on show the world just how far, one can go with a hustler mentality.
