C. Gibbs new(er) band tonight at Glasslands
Tonight, an indie rock band is going to be playing The Glasslands in Brooklyn. Nothing big, right? Just another Thursday night. Wrong because the band in question is The Droves, which just happens to feature our indie rock hero C. Gibbs. Why all the excitement? Anyone that has heard any of his previous musical forays, the fantastic and criminally underrated Morning Glories, deep and wonderful solo career and one of 2007's greatest bands in Lucinda Black Bear, knows the guy is up to something. This new project is no different. Bolstered by a line up of Lucinda Black Bear bassist Mike Cohen, Greg Stovetop, and former Morning Glories stickman Kenny Salveson, The Droves are already another fine notch in Gibbs belt. Start worshiping at their altar before everyone and their mother does. Let the four songs on their myspace start your drooling. See you theret! - Dan Berkman

Bio
The Droves are a four piece at present. They are Christian Gibbs(Lucinda Black Bear, C.Gibbs)-guitar, vocals, Kenny Savelson(Melomane)-drums, Gregory Stovetop(Used to Be Women)-bass, and Mike Cohen(Lucinda black Bear, Soft Explosions)-guitar. They all live in Brooklyn. Christian and Kenny used to play together in Morning Glories who released 3 records with Cargo/Headhunter. As the story goes Christian first met Gregory Stovetop in Ypsilanti , Michigan when he was opening up for Gibbs as "Grelvis" complete with a giant paper mache pompadour and singing modern pop songs as an Elvis impersonator. When Savelson and Gibbs started a new band they asked Gregory to fill in the bass duties. Shortly thereafter they asked Mike Cohen (ex-Soft Explosions) to help out with guitar. Armed so far with only 5 songs recorded with producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Lemonheads, Apples in Stereo, Akron Family, Michael Gira and many more) The Droves plan to have the rest of the album mixed by March, 2008.
