About Me

FUNKIFIED BEATS AND 2FOR1 MOJITOS EVERY MONDAY @ BARRACA (1134 MONT ROYAL EAST) MyGen Profile Generator

My Interests

Spreading the Ruby Jane velvet soul...lyrical elation, shimmy shakin', beats, eats and chinatown treats!

I'd like to meet:

David Bowie...I once dreamed that I came downstairs in the morning and found him at my kitchen table smoking a cigarette. So I fried him some eggs and poured him a coffee. He said, "thanks love" and stared out the window with those blue blue eyes. The End.

Music:

velvety downtempo, funk, hip hop, afrobeat, reggae, soul, jazz, any soulful breaky bizness, broken beat a la west london style. Got a bit of a thing for hiphop dnb mashups....oh...and some new jack swing (can you say "Poison"?!)................................................. .... DJ Cam, Scott Herren (taught me about Afternoon Love-ins), DJ Shadow (blew my mind in '97), Tommy Guerrero (swooon), Aim, Platinum Pied Pipers (swooon No.2), Bonobo (so polished), RJD2 (Hot damn), Cinematic Orchestra (especially "all that you give," so haunting), Handsome Boy Modellling School, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Gotan Project (best live act I've EVER seen), Greyboy, LCD Soundsystem, Beck (bloody genius).... Antibalas (they's be real), Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson, Lynn Collins (it takes two to make it outta sight), Roy Ayers, Lee Fields, Sun-Ra, Afrika Bambaata, Sugar Hill Gang, Miles Davis, Betty Davis, Nina Simone, The JBs, Alice Russell, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, oh god there's no end... oh and all the hip hop classics like Nas, Camp Lo, Redman, Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Tribe, De la soul, Roots, Blackalicious ("aural pleasure," baby), RZA, Jay Dilla as well as Ghostface, J-live, Jean Grey, People Under the Stairs (smile like a caribbean isle), Foreign Beggars (check them from the UK)........music moves us all.

Movies:

Oh Brother Where art Thou?, American Beauty, Bladerunner aaaaaaaaaand this:Jan Pahechaan Ho

Television:

Sopranos, In the Actor's Studio (kevin spacey is God), and my new obsession: CARNIVALE... hot jesus, it's getting creepier and creepier.

Books:

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez ; Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie... For an instant mood-lifter, Tom Robbins, for poetry, Michael Ondaatje............. have read thousands and thousands of books in my lifetime. I don't consider myself productive for it. It just gives me an excuse to lie in bed in a state of undress for long periods of time. It also makes me feel like I've experienced way more things than I ever have. I suppose, in a sense, I have experienced them, albeit vicariously. Sometimes I feel like I have lived a thousand lives. Maybe I have.

Heroes:

Tommy Guerrero, pro skater now musician...dude's got a way with the guitar that makes me swoon. It's just me and Tommy G against the world right now.
