It’s soulful, sultry, lets just call it “grown folks music.†The music I speak of is Sheila Jay’s music. Who is Sheila Jay you ask? She’s a spicy girl, a southern girl. Born and raised in one of the world’s melting pots of Blues, Jazz, Rock &Roll, and R&B; Memphis, TN of course. She was reared in the church, the daughter of a pastor and a classical pianist/singer. She was rooted in the rich tradition of music from the gospel of James Cleveland to the funk of Aretha Franklin. Many have called her the “triple threatâ€, singer, songwriter and actress. You can catch her on a number of stages. Recently she was the star of Crowns a musical directed by Tony Horne and debuted at Playhouse of the Square, Memphis’s premier community resident theater. She was also in Aida and School House Rock Live, The Full Monty, Peter Pan, The Wild Party, Caroline or Change and currently Big River. You can also catch her in Playhouse on the Square's season opener "Jerry Springer The Opera" premiering August 9th thru September 9th. "Doubt" opens at Playhouse on the Square September 28th thru October 21st. Sheila Jay is playing the tony award winning role of "Mrs. Muller" you don't want to miss it.
