About Me
The Kijana Project is a non-profit and youth-run organization that helps children in Africa who have lost one or both parents to AIDS. Since its inception in 2001 by sisters Alexandra and Saunsuray Govere, Kijana has accumulated over 2,000 young members throughout the world. Together, members collect and send food, clothing, toys, school supplies, and educational funding to hundreds of children in Zimbabwe, Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Namibia (We are currently helping hundreds of children on a regular basis; however, we have assisted over 100,000 in total). At Kijana, we also realize the importance of AIDS education. Our HIV/AIDS educational programming has educated youth at schools, churches, conferences, and community events throughout the world. Our programming includes lectures, speeches, and didactic song and dance. In the past 8 years, we have educated over 3 million youth through personal, published, and digital platforms.
The Kijana Project has been featured in Teen People, Essence, Girls' Life, Elle, and Crisis Magazines, as well as on numerous television stations including CNN!
