The Laurentide Ice Sheet

About Me

The music I make is simple, I perform it alone, and it is based on real time loops and pre-recorded loops, and electronic guitar and a small keyboard. It is simple because it is digestible, with interesting textures. The Laurentide Ice Sheet was the last continental glacier. At its glacial maximum, 21,000 ago, the ice sheet covered all of the northern Plains states, all of Canada, the area west of the Rocky Mountains, and in the northeast it extended as far south as Long Island, New York (Rittenour 2004) (Figure 1.1). Over the last 2.3 million years geologists speculate that there have been 20 similar glacial advances (Little, 2003).The ice grew into a thick sheet that may have been anywhere from one to two miles (or 5,000-10,000 feet) thick at its center (Little 2003).
