About Me
While rhyming was a way for rappers to display their skills, mixing and scratching was a DJs way of showing what he had. The older guys used to bring out their music equipment and battle one another in the park or at block parties during the summer. I always paid close attention because I knew that that was what I wanted to do. Just being able to mix two or more totally different songs and coming out with a new flavor was intriguing to me. In 1983, I mastered the art of mixing as well as scratching and by 1984, I was hosting my own house and block parties.
In 1985, I became a professional DJ and was given my own 30 minute radio show once a week working for the local hip hop and R&B radio stations in New York City and also made guest appearances on albums of several rap artists such as: Antoinette, Audio Two, KRS One, MC Lyte, Tim Dog and DAS EFX.
In 1990, while attending college at Virginia State University as a Music and Electronics major, I again met up with and became friends with DAS EFX. It was as if their rhymes were made to be put to my music. So I joined them as their DJ and we went on to complete four hit albums together by the end of 1992.
During the time that I was with DAS EFX I did guest appearances on numerous music and variety shows, among them were: Showtime at the Apollo, Jay Leno, Teen Summit, The Arsenio Hall Show, and BET Rap City Bassment. We also performed and toured several countries; Germany, Japan, England, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Croatia, and Brazil are just a few.
In 1998, DAS EFX decided to slow down their performance and touring schedule to pursue other endeavors, so I continued and still perform as a solo act. I do an annual performance overseas in Cologne, Germany at the Babs Sportswear Convention. From 1998 to present, I appear regularly as a guest DJ on New York City, North Carolina and International hip hop and R&B radio shows. so now im djing for redman
