About Me
Much of the success of hip-hop has been predicated
on the culture of music. The representation
of artists in various geographic regions
has allowed hip-hop to become a way of
life, more so than just a music genre.
The commonality of similar joys, pains,
pleasures and struggles has eliminated
boundaries once restricting participation
only to East and West, as the entire globe
has become a melting pot of ideas, values,
beliefs and trends. In essence, the vast influence
of hip-hop has allowed individuals everywhere to
embrace one another's
neighborhoods, experience each other's cultural
differences and to experience America.
From the outside looking in, one may view the Air-Capital city of Wichita, Kansas a highly unlikley proponent of hip-hop.
On the contrary, the voice of middle America
is not waiting to be heard, but needing to be heard.
Though More commonly synonymous with JayHawk Basketball,
Tornadoes and the Wizard of Oz than with hip-hop music,
Kansas may just be hip-hop's best kept secret waiting to
be revealed. Kanasas artist represent an innovative new
perspective on urban life, and pop culture that combine the
elements of small town, blue collare values mixed with the
crime, poverty, and other perils that exist in each of America's big citys.Fuled by a hip-hop community constantly starving for new dances,
new styles,
new trends,
and of course new associations "The Association"
is posed and ready to lead the charge as America
braces itself to experience Kansas.
Coming from backgrounds rooted in poverty, violence,
struggles, and daily grinding, this highly likley
talented quarlet of family memnbers and
friends wil soon be taking the industry by
storm, much in a manner simular
to that of a ferocious Kansas Tornado.
Commonly referred to by their
abbreviated group name, spoken with a classic
Kansas accent "The Association"
is affectionatly known to friends and fans as::"ASSO" (Pronounced AY-SO)::
.
The groups first full length LP entitled
" Gulity By Association",
to be released fourth quarter 2006,
displays a distinct sound, and
represents a spectrum of complexions
and colors that co-exist in a
world of heavy hustle, heartache and hope.
In Janurary 2004, ASSO suffered the tragic
loss of group leader
Tellus "Telly Tell" Colvin, the brother of group member
I.Q. Fueled by anger,
compelled by grief and inspired by tears,
ASSO channeled their collective energies
towards performing and creating a buzz on
local and regional venues throughout the midwest.
In june 2004, ASSO realeased a 5song EP titled "Associated," which fueled by the success
of the radio friendly single "Kid Again, " catapulted the group to become Wichita's top
choice among local artist, and a heavly requested favorite on Wichita's two urban stations Pwer
93.9 and 107.9 JAMZ. In fact, "Kid Again"
was so well received, that local fans voted the
single to an unprecedented five consecutive wins
over various national artists on Power 93.9's
flagship program "battle of the fresh jams". Equiped
with radio buzz, tremendous street credibility and
entrepreneurial self-promotional vehicles such as
parties, fliers, and ppsters, ASSO has developed
a following that other local artist can only envy.
Opening for chart topping acts including Chingy, T
he Ying Yang Twins, Ray Cash, Paul Wall, Juvinelle,
ECT..
The buzz for ASSO had grown so much by the end
of 2004, that in early 2005 the group was offered
a developmental deal by Jane Doe Entertainment,
and upstart label based in Houston, Texas.this relationship allowed ASSO the opportunity to share
their incredible stage show with auidences
throughout the state of Texas,
where they were also well received.the future goal of ASSO is to employ
hundreds of young entrepreneurs who
express a passion in thegrowth, development and preservation of ASSO and in the culture of Hip-Hop in general.Benard "Big Workk" Burch,
