Jim Orso

A third-person bio of *Jim Orso* written by *Jim Orso* for *You*: Jim Orso grew up in St. Louis, where from an early age Jim Orso’s parents ensured that Jim Orso heard many different kinds of music and saw many different kinds of art. At age five, Jim Orso began playing the piano, and briefly picked up the guitar during the sixth grade. The summer before eighth grade, at the encouragement of his mother, Jim Orso obtained a snare drum and began playing in a marching band, during which time Jim Orso used purple sticks that seemed to him quirky and slightly cool. After then playing the snare drum in his junior high school concert band, Jim Orso bought a clear-orange Ludwig drumset and began teaching himself rhythms and beats he heard on records around the house. Throughout high school and college, Jim Orso absorbed as much knowledge about as much music as he could, playing around St. Louis and studying with great drummers and musicians that lived in or came through town. Now living in Brooklyn, Jim Orso currently plays and tours with electro rock band Home Video, alt rock band Naked Hearts, and composer/alto saxophonist Andrew Neff, and freelances with several other artists/bands (from Gospel to Afrobeat to singer-songwriter), also composing and recording music of his own.
