About Me

"Truly one of the area's most prominent emerging talents" (Burnley Express, 17/6/08), Alexis started playing the guitar and songwriting 6 years ago. After a couple of years of solid practicing and penning tunes she began gigging and recording, self-releasing 'Takin' It Easy' in 2007, "a rather astonishing debut mini-album" (manchestermusic.co.uk). Guy Garvey from Elbow describes Alexis as "A fantastic songwriter... she writes simple, classic, beautiful country". After playing 'Takin' It Easy' on his BBC6 Music radio show he proclaimed 'It's one of the world's great mysteries why Alexis McLean is without a record deal or management' (Guy Garvey's Finest Hour, BBC6 Music, 25/11/07).
As well as being a fantastic songwriter Alexis has a great voice... "McLeans vocals are perhaps one of the most wonderful things you will hear on the new folk / roots scene" (manchestermusic.co.uk). She's been described as "a local girl with a powerful bluesy country voice that seems to come from thousands of miles away, maybe even from a different time”... and as being "recognised as one of the City's leading purveyors of a hybrid of Nashville and Northern Folk, the songs are beautiful and soulful, but all the same quite traditional too. So you get the best of all worlds captured and re-imagined by her wonderful voice” (manchestermusic.co.uk).
Since 'Takin' It Easy' Alexis has self-released a 3-track EP; 'Blue Door' (2008) and has just finished her 3rd release; 'Wheels'. McLean has played many gigs, support slots for artists such as Stephen Fretwell, and has performed at several festivals over the past four years including Glastonbury in 2007. With plenty of impressive performances and recordings under her belt, and after having won the acclaim of several people inside and outside of the music industry, 2010 is set to see Alexis' musical career going from strength to strength.
