Mats Karlsson, Swedish guitar player/songwriter was born in Östersund in the north of Sweden. He first got intrested in music when his older brother Ulf and a cousin of theirs played him some heavy rock music back in 1972. The most exciting stuff then was Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. These bands of course made a big impression and still remain among Mats favourite bands.
Mats was always intrested in learning how to play the guitar (damn that Blackmore), and his brother Ulf started to play with friends and learned chords and taught Mats some basic stuff. Anyway, the first instrument to get a real try out was the drums! His parents finally gave in for all the nagging and gave him a small drumkit. This was around when he was 9-10 years old, before the family moved to their own house..which was when Mats was 10 and some. Known to be precise and adamant about learning things, the neighbors in the apartment building where the family lived, weren..t too sad when they moved.
After playing in several bands with his brother, Mats incidentally met up with a guy called Thomas Drevin....Thomas was visiting in Mats.. hometown at the time, and happened to stay at his sisters place, just about 1 minute from Mats' home. They became friends and penpals and when Thomas moved to Ö-sund they decided to start a band. Thomas and Mats.. main band "220 Volt" was actually formed quite soon after Thomas moved to Ö-sund. They were the founding members, and it was the beginning of a lifelong story which is still ongoing.
