Sounds Like: SCION…………A Biography
SCION was put together in the winter months of 2002 under the original and quite suspect moniker of “Blind Surgeon†by Martin and Mick on guitars, Jonny on drums and James on vocals.
Diamond Studios was chosen as the band rehearsal rooms. Now playing without any volume restrictions the band developed its own sound. Personality clashes surfaced as Martin continually referred to the band as “His Bandâ€. The remaining members decided that the time had come to close that chapter.
Jonny began taking control regarding the creative process, bringing ideas into the rehearsal room and tapping into his wealth of knowledge. Aided and abetted by James and Mick who were also full of new ideas.
Ian was drafted in as the bands first ever bass player and quickly settled down. Constant writing ensued, a name change and a direction change saw the band adopt a much darker edge as the creative team were now more focused on what they wanted to achieve. The next step was to take the band on the live circuit………
So on the 25/02/03 “Forsaken†took to the stage at the Snooty Fox. A lot of interest was generated and in front of a full house “Forsaken†began to shake the foundations of the Wakefield Metal scene. A plethora of local gigs followed also the recording of “Death Penalty EPâ€, which sold a respectful amount of units, added to the bands growing reputation.
The addition of a new guitarist was now of paramount importance for the band's continued development and after scouting round, the decision was made to introduce Phil to the band. Phil slotted in easily and had the desired effect, freeing up ideas to be brought into the band regarding dual guitars, harmony and a more technical feel.
SCION was then decided to be the new name and gigging resumed. Now gaining a respectful fan base and support slots with UK and International bands. After a while Ian’s interest waned and the decision was made to part company.
Sealey was a friend of the band and had seen us a few times, when approached, he had no hesitation in joining the band.
The highlight of 2004 for SCION was a support slot at Bradford Rio, supporting one of their major influences, THE HAUNTED which was a special occasion for all concerned.
With the line up now set and more and more influences surfacing, the band concentrated on writing a new batch of songs which, when played live sit handsomely alongside the older “classicsâ€. Whilst retaining the trademark SCION sound the new batch also show an improved maturity and technical ability and an increase in intensity.
