Contact TablesIRONCLAD is an Austin, TX quartet set on breathing new life into the current Heavy Rock scene. Combining Black Sabbath groove and Led Zeppelin riffs with a hearty helping of 80's metal and Southern Rock, Ironclad is quickly establishing itself as a force to be reckoned with.
The brain-child of guitarist/songwriter Danny G (The Mother Truckers/Southern Gun Culture/Shandon Sahm band), Ironclad has been a work-in-progress since late 2004. His goal was to hand pick the best of the best musicians from the local talent and put together a truly formidable rock band. After a slew of ads, months of word-of-mouth searching and many auditions the lineup was finally solidified in late 2006 with the addition of drummer Javi Moctezuma (Icons of Industry/Signal to Noise), bassist Tim "Tank" Casterline (The Dealers/Peyton Gin/Desinence) and vocalist Stuart Smith (Tall). Tank was quickly establishing himself as one of the best bassists in Austin's Red River music community, Javi brought to the table groove and onstage charisma and San Diego CA transplant Stuart had already made a name for himself on the West Coast with TALL.
Throughout 2007 IRONCLAD created a buzz on Red River, sharing the stage with The Hidden Hand, Kylesa, Suplecs, Honky and Amplified Heat to name a few, played alongside the mighty Blue Cheer and Weedeater at the Emissions From The Monolith IX festival May 07 in Austin, and were slated to play the Stoner Hands of Doom festival that fall in Phoenix, AZ. The American Dream EP was self-released in spring 07 and IRONCLAD played locally and regionally to support it.
But with internal differences and the departure of Javi in Sept 2007 the band went on indefinite hiatus that October, perhaps for good. Danny G joined The Mother Truckers on bass and toured with them for the majority of 2008, Tank joined the mighty M.O.D. and had an equally hectic road schedule. But the three remaining members kept in touch, talking of at least recording unreleased material as a proper epitaph. But by late 2008 talk turned to a complete resurrection of the band they all missed playing in.
Late 2008 drummer Adrian Flores entered the picture, whom Danny, Tank and Stuart had all known from the Red River community. Personality-wise and stylistically he was a perfect match and rightfully earned his place as new drummer for IRONCLAD a song or two into his first rehearsal. When you know, you know.
Now IRONCLAD stands poised to return to the stage and the studio, back and stronger than ever. 2009 will be the Year of IRON.
