Australia’s hardcore scene is again being rocked by a force out of Newcastle, and that new force is Safe Hands. Following the path of local hardcore mainstays before them like The Dead Walk, Dropsaw, Coma Lies and the ever groundbreaking Conation, Safe Hands are starting to spread their own brand of noisy discordant hardcore throughout NSW and the rest of the country.
Their tale is not all that different to that of other bands, the old story of a group of friends with a common passion for making music, all coming from different debunked endeavours, finding out that making music together may just be the best idea they’ve ever had. Alex (Drums), Anthony (Guitar/Vocals), Ben (Bass/Vocals), James (Guitar) and Tim (Vocals) all came together in late September of 2006 with the ambition to make heavy music that was dynamic, interesting and above all fun.
The band's recently released debut EP Against The Wrecking Ball is equal parts discordant chaos, abrasive rock'n'roll and innovative technicality. Take Poison The Well, The Chariot, Every Time I Die, Rosetta and some naïve ingenuity, roll them up in a carpet and throw them off a bridge, and you have one of the year's most astonishing independent releases. Shunning traditional song structure and coupled with moments of melody reaching out amidst the dissonance, there is a strong underlying sense of desperation to the music that mirrors the youthful enthusiasm of its players.
In just 18 months together Safe Hands have supported many of the national scene’s heaviest hitters including The Rivalry, The Amity Affliction, A Secret Death, Robotosaurus, The Jonestown Syndicate and Hospital The Musical as well as US cinema-grinders Graf Orlock. Their increasingly riotous and fierce live performances have created a groundswell of support for the Newcastle boys and now with the release of Against The Wrecking Ball Safe Hands will be capitalising on this with trips to Victoria, South Australia and Queensland planned for late 2008 / early 2009. Get excited.
"Safe Hands can be proud of what they have done with "Against The Wrecking Ball", which is a very worthwhile listen. The band have shown they are not content with just making safe hardcore. Rather, they made something interesting to listen to, which is a quality shown by few these days." - killyourstereo.com
"Epic-sounding slabs of discordant brutality. Ones to keep an eye on." - Rod Yates, Blunt Magazine
"...heavy music in the vein of Botch, Poison The Well and Every Time I Die...I personally guarantee SAFE HANDS will blow you away." - Michael Dawson, Destroy All Lines
