Hello friends, here I am. Hanka Rihova who started singing "by accident" at the age of 20 with the youngest blues band in the Czech Republic of that time called
Buddy Wonders. After 4 months of performing I somehow gained a "Best vocal" prize on "Noc Bluesowa 2002" festival in Rawa Mazowiecka, Poland. We had an opportunity to show up on tv in a late night show "Noc s Andelem" to advertise the blues festival "Blues Alive 2002" in Sumperk, CZ. Since then this festival has been my favorite for its incredible and unforgettable atmosphere (www.bluesalive.cz).
After a break-up of Buddy Wonders I joined
RT & The Misfits, founded by
Marcel Flemr and
Rene Trossman, to sing blues songs. I enjoyed touring around Czech, visited Slovakia many times and also Hungary and Austria. RT & The Misfits had regular gigs at "U Maleho Glena" jazz club and for some time it was my No.1 activity. I learned several French classic chansons too to sing them on a "Montmartre 2003" street festival in my home town and in my mind I still have a thought of some more French singing for I love the sound of this beautiful language.
In summer 2003 it was time to co-found
Roadcasters, playing raw and dynamic electric blues. The repertoire consisted of our own interpretation of songs from the Blues Greats such as B.B. King, A.Collins, Buddy Guy, Lucky Peterson, James Wheeler, Shemekia Copeland etc. Demo cd "Live - Stara Pekarna" was recorded in October 2003.
After my show-up on "Blues Alive 2003" I left for Aoteaora (New Zealand). I thought I would have found some wicked musicians down under but unfortunately that just had not happened. Except of a few tries in Wellington clubs with the locals and except of singing with Maori people I had not found the right band stuff to keep on singing as much as I wanted to. I sang alone when I was hiking in the mountains or walking by the road or working in a wineyard. Anyways my journey to Aoteaora gave me an inspiration of the highest level and I long for going back one day.
I came back to Czech in 2004 and once I hitch-hiked I coincidentally met a drummer of a reggae band called MessenJahs. I joined
MessenJahs and experienced a hint of a reggae feeling.
In summer 2005 I left them and started to sing with
Marcel Flemr again as I realised he is the one musician I really want to have by my side. This was the beginning of the very latest likely project "
GRAPE"
www.myspace.com/grapecz . I try to seek balance between wild grooves and smooth voice, write lyrics, hope to succeed in front of the audience. Apart from GRAPE I dance with an afro dance-drumming group
"TiDi TaDe" www.tiditade.cz in Prague. You can sometimes see me on stage with Marcel Flemr Band, singing the good old blues too.
