Born in London the youngest of three children. The only girl and two brothers. Southeast London, SE15 to SE18 of Jamaican background.
Carol Black has been singing and performing professionally since the age of 16, but began an appetite for music some years earlier when she began playing the piano from the age of 6. By the time she reached 13, she had written several songs of which she would perform to family and friends. By 16 she was doing backing vocals for up and coming artists, as well as established acts such as Taka Boom, Chaka Khan’s sister who is produced by Joey Negro. She began touring with Matt Bianco doing venues such as the Blue Notes through out Japan, and stadiums across Europe, and performing for the King of Morocco, sharing stage with some of music’s greats such as, James Brown, Chaka Khan, Mica Paris, Level 42, Imagination etc.
Through the years, her close relationship with a small Indie record label Mass Music, along with Lovecat music, based in New York and L.A, provided her the forum to become part of a writing team that would go on to write songs that would feature in a number of film and T.V shows such as, Babel starring Brad Pitt, In America starring Samantha Morton & Paddy Considine, Hell to Pay starring Dave Courtney, Brave one starring Jodie Foster, Sex & The City, Ugly Betty, Sweet 16 & more. There were to be dance tracks that were written & released through Mass Music, of which You took my lovin was a floor filler in 1993 also released on Nice‘n’Ripe, and still creates a buzz today.
Carol Black has gigged up and down the U.K, the Middle East, North Africa, America & Europe doing clubs, or private parties such as your weddings, birthdays, barmitzfas, charity events commercials, etc as a solo singer, or as part of a band up to a seven piece. She would often be the warm up act for a number of other acts, such as the late Mike Reed, Jim Davison, Joe Pescalli, and more.
Carol's influences are many from your Stevie Wonder, to your Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Al Green, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Betty Wright, Phyllis Hyman, Denise Williams, Teena Marie, Karen Carpenter, and many more.
It is a gift, and a blessing for the ability to not only bring joy of melody to one & all, but equally to be touched the same way by many through their music, but remain conscious & grounded in the knowledge that the blessings continue to provide an income doing the very thing she loves. Praises to the most high for his loving kindness & blessings. Let us give our thoughts to the less fortunate who through no fault of their own, will never realise any of their dreams. From the cradle to the grave their struggle is only one of survival. May we keep them in our thoughts & prayers, while we keep the light shining on their plight for all to see the injustices created by world governments.
I love you my sweet sweet mother who departed this earth 16 March 2004. Thank you for your love, your sacrifices, your strength, loving kindness, and kind warm spirit. I am rich from the gift of your love. May you rest in peace in the knowledge our father has a place for you in paradise.
