Band Members: Power of the Tongue: One-Woman . One Show _________________________But, soon, soon, soon - PDS - Purpose-Destiny-Success fetauring Ge'ylah and Hasani _________________________ Also, the favorite Poem project will include poets froma cross the globe performing for colleg and univ. events. _________________________ Also, For the Love of the Word Tour, featuring Greg Pickett (Awesome)
Influences: The greatest influences are my crumbsnatchers-my children - Aaron, Chelo, Johnathan, and Shauntia. They are my great inspirations. _________________________To all those who have helped me walk me through healings. _________________________Most important are the influences of Mary Jones (my mommy), the late, Dr. Donda West, Merle Hodges, Sonia Sanchez, Estelle Smith, Susan L. Taylor, and Dr. B.J. Bolden _________________________If it weren't for these women, I wouldn't be performing today. Besides them all the great oral and poetically creative ancestors to whom I can most humbly say Thank you. And, to those who I desire to do projects with, trust me you are a great influence on me. _________________________Hasani Pettiford, my big brother. (Hmmm, does it matter that I am really the oldest?) It seems like just yesterday, we'd talk for hours and hours "creating" and "visualizing" our ambiutions. I'll be catching up to you really soon. We go back 12 years and despite our disconnect for a portion of that time, I am so grateful for the bond & foundation that God engineered. Equally grateful, I am--for the reunion and the kinship. Love ya! -- We're in it to win it!! _________________________Zora Neale Hurston, however, is a pretty big influence. She, despite her greatness and her ability to write " Their Eyes Were Watching God" in 6 weeks, died broke, poor and was buried in a pauper's grave. I am determined to inform the world of her greatness. By the way, have any of you made a donation to the Zora Neale Hurston Museum in the town of Eatonville, Florida?
Sounds Like: My goal is to represent the poets I recite in truth and honor, so it would be my hope to deliver that authenticity to my audience. I don't know if I, in particular, sound like any one writer or artist. That's the great thing about me - I can not be duplicated!!! _________________________ There are other spoken word artists who I admire.... There are various aspects of their work or aura that I truly respect and would like to have an ounce of what they possess poured into me. _________________________ Triple Blak, for his realness and honor to the ancestors, J-Ivy for that ode' to the moon, Gregory Pickett for that creativity, Malik for that people orientedness, Avery for that vivaciousness, Regie gibson for that smoothness, Nichole Shields for that literary knowledge, Lasana Kazembe for that Love of the people...More to be added...
