About Me
Rayl Patzak (aka Rayl Da P-Jay) brings poetry to the dancefloor. The only poetry dj worldwide is famous for mixing poems into breakbeats in a way, that people can dance on poetry in clubs. From Shakespeare, Schiller & Goethe, over Pumuckl rhymes & Heinz Erhard verses, up to todays slam-, rap-, and dub-poets, there is nearly no poet that has not been in a club mix once done by the P-Jay.
Rayl Patzak has performed his poetry dj shows in clubs, theaters and on festivals all over Europe, Scandinavia and the USA. His poetry parties have amazed people at such exotic places like the Opera House in Detroit, the Teatro Blanco in Barcelona, New Yorks "Nuyorican Poets Cafe", the legendary Stratford East Theatre in London or the Skyline Arena in Chicago. He has been invited to deejay at highly regarded literature festivals, such as "Roma Poesia" (Rome), "Poetry International" (Rotterdam), the "1. Brussel Poetry Festival" (Belgium), the "Theater Royal Annual Spoke Fest" (London), "The International Book Week" (Athen) or the "Bozen Poetry Festival" (Bolzano, Italy), to name a few. He deejayed his mixes on the roof (above the 19th floor) of the Crown Plaza Hotel in Cologne, the Stationi Termini In Rome, a driving subway, in the underground of Munich or on the beach of the Zurich lake in Switzerland.
RPJ has been the official DJ of National Slams all over the european continent and the USA. He was the official DJ of the Poetry Slam World Championships 2004 & 2005 in Rotterdam and 2007 in Paris.
Rayl Da P-Jay has done special guest dj sets and after show parties for artists like The Streets, Ursula Rucker, The Last Poets or EL-P.
From 2004 - 2007 the P-Jay has played shows for the Goethe Institute all over Europe. He opened his poetic record bags in some of the most famous European dance clubs, like the Roxy in London, the Funky Kitchen in Munich, the Supreme Club in Madrid or the Prime in Cologne.
RAYL DA P-JAY has also created special poetic DJ sets and mixes for well known industry- and fashion brands, such as PUMA, NIL or BMW.
His charismatic dj-style and Poetry-CD productions have been featured in "London Weekly", "Süddeutsche Zeitung", "Chicago Tribune", the London "Time Out" magazine, Swedens "Metro", "TAZ", Munichs "Abendzeitung" or the Italian "Vogue".
In his columne "Der Poesie DJ spricht..." at Claudio.de (Burda Verlag) he presents every week new spoken word music productions and gives views inside his art of mixing poetry.
Rayl Patzak has released two albums: "P-Jays Delight. Poems For The Deranged" and the brandnew inter-european spoken word - music compelation "Europe Speaks" (last one together with Ko Bylanzky). In fall 2009 his new solo-album with 16 hot poetry tracks, featuring many international spoken word artists, will be released.
