Aids in Africa

About Me

At the end of 2005 there were an estimated 24.5 million people living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.

AIDS is now the leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa – killing an estimated 2 million people in 2005 alone.

In the same year another 2.7 million became infected with HIV.

At the end of 2005, Africa was home to an estimated 12 million children under 18 who had lost at least one parent to AIDS.

The number of orphaned children is expected to rise to more than 18 million by 2010.

More than 60% of all the people worldwide with HIV are livign in sub-Saharan Africa, though it only contains little more than 10% of the world's population.
