The Monkey Butlars

About Me

The monkey butlars are a three piece band from Portsmouth on the south coast of England. Coming from pretty successful bands in the past, it was only a matter of time before three of the most talented musicians in the country would finally cross each others paths. Dean Andrews’ powerfully raw vocals, Steve Allen’s (longman) ability to make an entire sound of his own and Martin Barratt's new found bass antics is what brings the magic to the band. They formed in late July 2006 with Martin joining in May 2007, and have since caused a ripple of disturbance across the south’s music scene. Four bands have already given up playing live after realising the butlars have raised the bar to a new level! The boys played a couple of unplanned gigs in Brussels last year, which were a massive success and are packing their bags for a few gigs in Denmark in Septemer. The band have also secured dates in London through word of mouth, all, in their words “without really trying that hard”. finding the right producer to record their first demo was proving difficult. It’s essential to capture the live sound which is what the band are all about. The butlars have just started writing again, so hopefully within a month or so they’ll be back in the studio to record these fantastic new songs. The tracks you can listen to on this page were recorded live and are just an insight into the whirlwind that is tearing across the city of Portsmouth……..
