About Me

André Le Roux du Toit (Koos Kombuis) was born on the 5th November 1954 in Duiwelspiek, Cape Town. Since his schooldays people have called him Koos. Although he loved music and reading he did not fancy school at all, he found it very boring as he taught himself how to read since the age of three. He never had an ambition to follow an academical career, moving from school to school he ended up at Stellenbosh.
After a year in the army, when all his friends went to varsity, Koos started doing odd jobs mostly in Johannesburg. His early job’s ranged from frying chickens at K.F.C, making pizzas in restaurants and being a fireman. Koos even tried his hand at fortune telling, helping housewives determine the sex of their unborn baby’s.
Bennie-Fritz from “Huisgenoot” magazine came to his salvation when he accepted a short story that Koos sent him, and requested more. Koos then hitch-hiked down to Cape-Town where he spent two years as a freelance writer, writing stories for “Huisgenoot”. At that stage Koos found it difficult to communicate with people and could only do so through his writing.
Luckily, his short stories in “Huisgenoot” led him to bigger success and opened doors for him. He then changed his name to Andrè Le Toit to avoid confusion with other writers. When he got bored with the serious world of writing, he bought himself a guitar and started writing songs. One thing led to another and to date he has recorded an incredible nine cd's and have written a number of books under his new name, Koos Kombuis.
Today, Koos lives in a lovely home with his wife and two kids, he love’s his car, a Chrysler P.T Cruiser, he still does show’s all over South-Africa, writing books and entertaining people all over the world.
