My Buddy Moose

My Buddy Moose, a four member band from Rijeka, assembled in September 2004 in their present form, had recorded its first material in 2001. Luka Bencic, author and guitar player and Matko Botic, guitar and mandolin player, recorded 3 originals and a cover (Hank Williams' The Ramblin' Man) in an improvised studio in the autumn of 2001. The Ramblin' Man cover features a guest appearance by Ištvan Širola, the bass player who was at the time playing in the renown garage-rock band from Rijeka, The Stoned Cows, together with Luka Bencic , Jasmin Ðecevic on drums, and Zlatko Gostic, lead singer and guitar player. The idea of serious work on Bencic’ songs had been considered until the summer of 2004 when Ðecevic and Širola join Bencic and Botic to form the final and complete line up. Different pop music genres, ranging from rock’n’roll and punk to soul and country, influenced their music. Searching for their mode of expression in the realm of what Gram Parsons named cosmic American music they have been drawing their inspiration from the sensibility of Gram Parsons, Steve Earle and Townes Van Zandt as well as from the garage energy of The Sonics and The Stooges. Having recorded their second demo by the end of 2004, My Buddy Moose have been promoting their music on tour. During the following two years they played in Rijeka, Labin, Split, Dubrovnik, St. Stefan near Graz and Zagreb, where they played 5 times in various clubs during 2005 alone. Their energetic live gigs spark considerable interest among the audience who have seen them sharing the stage with bends that share their sensibility like Zagreb’s Casual Elvis but also with big names like Steve Wynn, The Saints and The Strange. In 2005, Dalibor Pavicic, The Strange and The Bambi Molesters guitar player gets the demo tapes and he generously offers help with recording the album.
