Born and raised in Toronto, the soundtrack to Savilion's youth was mid- to late-90s hip hop acts like Wu-Tang Clan, Das EFX, Group Home, Busta Rhymes and Nas. His days of getting in trouble while painting trains and other found canvases in his neighbourhood were transformed once he discovered the joys of DJing. Savilionl started making scratch-heavy pause button mixtapes not long after a friend acquired turntables and the movie Juice showed them just how hype DJ battles could be.
At 16, Savilion moved to suburban Etobicoke where he met another aspiring DJ, Mr. Lee, as well as Circle Research producer-DJ Astro the Guillotine, who sold them their first drum machine. They learned to work with the MS1's limited memory, banging out beat tapes and the occasional rap tape. Savilion eventually upgraded to an MPC and a 4-track recorder. Savilion, was skipping school to make beats and write raps for his first album, Sound Puzzles, he could be found at lunch freestyling with friends. During one such session, Savilion met a crazy beatboxer by the name of Mitts who, under the new name of Thoughtbug, would become the first emcee Savilion would produce for aside from himself. The partnership resulted in a solo album for Thoughtbug followed by a group effort from the two.
That same year, Savilion was also reacquainted with some elementary school friends. Shazbot and Status checked his beats and liked what they heard, so they joined with Savilion and Thoughtbug as Creature Box, recording the Frantic Hunt For Shade. Influenced by artists like Company Flow, Buck 65 and Sixtoo, the production contained hard, dirty drums and dark melodies rather than the happy, shiny, jazz-inspired production of Savilion's previous releases, but it fit the quartet's experimental raps. They also appeared on a couple of compilations from Hand'Solo Records, a Toronto label that had previous successes with Buck 65, Sixtoo and Moka Only. While signed to Hand'Solo Records, another Creature Box album never materialized
Savilion founded Green Walls Music in 2001 and debuted with a new Thoughtbug album, A Few Suggestions, fully produced by Savilion. Described as “a melodic hip-hop album with lots of change-ups and musical movements that easily flow together without sacrificing the boom bap.â€(Exclaim magazine). Savilion is putting the finishing touches on an as yet untitled instrumental album of beats made for ABA Entertainment's Unsung B-Boy Battle.
In addition to production for himself and his Creature Box crew, Savilion has produced for the likes of Empire, Bending Mouth, Self Help,The Wordburglar, Epic, Ill Seer, The Runaway, Roc Solid, and Keele. He is also working closely with Status as production duo The Sleepers. Currently Savilion is gaining a small following thought his blog www.savilionmusic.com where he releases various mixtapes of remixes and beats.
