Ibis Rookie

About Me

Ibis Rookie was brought together in its current form in 2006, uniting the powerful yet sultry vocals of Andrea McKenzie and the unorthodox, yet immediately familiar guitar riffs of Ben Bryan. Inspired by classic indie and alternative artists such as the Pixies, Death Cab for Cutie, Kashmir and Radiohead, along with an appreciation for many other styles of music, the band seeks to bring listeners on a tone journey that satisfies both their viscereal and cerebral appetites.
Throughout 2007 and 08, Ibis Rookie were active in the Melbourne indie rock scene, performing at venues such as the Tote, the Noise Bar and the Brunswick Hotel. Two of our songs were included on the "Two-Up Double A Sides" compilation, released by Phonoscope Productions in late 2007.
Following the departure of original drummer Luke Bryan in early 2008, current drummer Mick Hall joined Ibis Rookie later that year. The second half of 2009 will see the completion of (long-delayed) recordings, and exciting and memorable live shows.
Don't just believe us though - see what audience members had to say about Ibis Rookie:

"a fiery, beautiful mess of music"

"Little Birdy has nothing on you guys!"

"Ben...rhythm...pants"
