About Me

The Dorstein project started in 1997 originally under the name of the founder Torben. After some bad experiences with a couple of bands as a vocalist Torben had taught himself how to produce his own music. He started off with sequencing, composing a number of songs on the Boss DR5, but the sequencer being limited Torben started testing out different computer based music programs. Finally deciding on Propellerheads Reason as his canvas, now most of the songs performed to is composed in Reason. In 2004 Dorstein had the song “Shines For Me” featured in the film “The Passenger” on the ending credits. Also in 2004 Torben started a sister project to Dorstein called Thorstein, a more relaxing and mellow sound based on a request to compose music for a online yoga course in 2005. Corianne stepped up from co writer to co singer in 2005 and Dorstein put out its first album “Shines” a limited edition 6 song album. We sold out in three months. Today we are working on a more professional 9 to 10 song album, trying to get it done in the next couple of months. Torben and Corianne are also looking for other band mates a drummer, guitarist, other instruments and a high soprano female singer to make a more rounded and live sound.Header Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com! Sounds Like: Dorstein is an unorthodox blend of trascendently honied vocals reminiscent of the post-goth ambience of the 80's, crossbred with playfully genuine soundscapes. Churning rythyms borrowed from genres as abstracted as funk and poppy synth, with sexually laden inuendo laying the pavement, they encumber all that is mysterious in human desire. The twosome have a distinct chemistry which only adds to the whole bittersweet arrangement, again captivating their audience visually.... Veronika Fevers~ Detroit music journalist divaReview of Dorstein by Joe Ahh, Dorstein...With little thought to the conventional, Dorstein has gifted the world with a new style, difficult to imagine in this modern existence, having crafted a most visceral melody, and if I may...a beat that speaks to the Id on a primal level. A vision of the more basic of instincts is presented in the works of this band, and the relative progression, as such, of their lyrics engages the listener to feel, rather than think about, matters of sensual importance...not to mention a deep seated "animalistic" view of modern thought, as applied to secular life today. Kudos to this band for their non-conformist attitude to the mores' and taboo subjects of current society.Jung would be proud...
