Barrier Dutch

About Me

Formed after the two founding members, Haze & Becky, randomly discovered each others previously hidden musical prowess abilities, in the winter of 2003, Barrier Dutch have one goal, to claim the hearts of those who wish to be converted & to stir up the interest of those who are as yet unsure.
Having lost their previous bassist to the wilds of Australia, the band are now getting back on their feet with new members; Sam H. on the double bass and Hannah on guitar. Completing the line up are the usual suspects as always; Haze and Becky on Violin/BVs, Lead Vox/Guitar respectively, with Sam M. on le drums.
Barrier Dutch are in the process of recording again, and are soon to be embarking on a number of gigs in the near future.
They are as we speak working to get themselves known to as many people as possible, they have determination, a will to be heard & the integrity & talent to get themselves out there.
They play a form of indie rock, though with hints of many other musical genres, thanks to the wide variety of musical tastes within the band, everything from Queen to CKY, from Starsailor to Vanessa Mae. They're also lovely lovely people, I can assure you.

My Interests

Music:

Member Since: 20/03/2005
Band Members: Ms. Beckeh , Guitar, Lead Vocals;
Miss. Hazeh , Violin, Backing Vocals;
Master Sammeh , Drums;
Miss. Hannah , Guitar;
Samuel Esq. , Bass + Double Bass.
Influences: I’d say (me being Becky) Starsailor influenced me most, I can see their style of indie in the songs i write, & i’d like to say I aim for the female version of James Walsh’s vocals. All the members of the band have varying tastes in music, though they all eventually overlap, we like music ranging from Kittie, CKY & Green Day to Damien Rice, My Chemical Romance & Queen. I guess we all bring a little bit of our own musical tastes to the band, but out music tends to end up mainly Indie.

Venues We’ve Played

Some of the acievements we’re more proud of :) And things....

    Being interviewed/played/playing a live set on ARROW FM/SOVEREIGN FM
    Having a track on the GO GLOBAL CD, released as a CD and on iTunes/Napster etc
    Playing the Young Bands afternoon at the BLACK HORSE FESTIVAL 2007
    Being on the SOUTHCOAST ROCKS CD in 2007
    Headlining the PROVIDENCE in Brighton
    Supporting LADYFUZZ in Hastings
    Being played on HASTINGS ROCK in 2007
    Being played on SOUTHERN COUNTIES in 2007
    Getting into the semi-finals of the 2006 STABLES battle of the band competition at the Tunbridge Wells Forum

Venues we have previously played:

    Redstack, Bexhill
    The Providence, Brighton
    The Pavillion Tavern, Brighton
    The Crypt, Hastings
    Heroes, Hastings
    Smugglers, Hastings
    The Forum, Tunbridge Wells
    The Brass Monkey, Hastings
    The Sussex Arts Centre, Brighton
    Black Horse Music Festival, Nr. Hastings
    Funktion Rooms, Eastbourne
    Cafe Blue, Eastbourne
    The Rooms, St.Leonards-On-Sea

Sounds Like: Everyone has their own interpretation on things, but some things you might consider: Starsailor with female vocals, with maybe a bit of a more rocky vein in there too, and then there's the Hope of the States & Arcade Fire similarities with the violin. As far as vocals are concerned, think maybe the Cranberries, PJ Harvey or Stevie Nicks.
Record Label: none
