In addition to a yearly festival, BIFF presents special screenings and educational events throughout the year.
In 2008, this includes The Harold Lloyd Comedy Film Festival, April 18-20, 2008 , Hollywood '39 (The Brightest Stars and Best Films of Hollywood's Greatest Year) film workshops and other events to be announced.
In 2007, BIFF established Buffalo, NY as the first city in the world to celebrate UNESCO World Day for Audio Visual Heritage, and discovered that the world's first purpose-built Movie Theatre, the Vitascope Theatre, was opened by Mitchell and Moe Mark in Buffalo in October,1896.
The inaugural yearly festival will be held in Buffalo, NY and the adjoining counties of Western New York at an as yet unnanounced date..

The Buffalo International Film Festival will highlight the past and present work of individuals who are/were born, raised, educated, or in the Western New York Region and who have contributed in one or another way to world motion picture history.
The festival is particularly interested in highlighting the work of lesser known individuals or diverse cultural, ethnic, and educational origins.
Informally, we often refer to The Buffalo International Film Festival as B.I.F.F. or BIFF.
