Keegan Taylor is undoubtedly a mesmerizing performer whose stunning versatility allows him to deliver breathtaking and awe-inspiring performance whenever he sings. Born in Harriman’s Park, Point Fortin in 1982, Keegan attended SanFernando Boys RC where he was formally trained in singing being a member of the junior folk and senior choir with which he received numerous awards in such prestigious competitions as SanFest and Music Festival. In 1994 he entered Presentation College where his vocal talent continued its refinement as a member of the men’s senior choir and mixed choir.
Though Keegan enjoyed however, a great deal of formal and classical training, it was not the only influence on his versatility and style. The streets of Egypt village, Point Fortin was the training ground for the development and refinement of Keegan Taylor’s true talents as we see them before us today. It is here that Keegan, on almost any given evening, from as early as age thirteen, could be found challenging the much older boys of the village already versed in their own craft of street lyrics, stinging deliveries and deadly punch-lines. Keegan’s bravery, tenacity and ability to deliver knock out punches to the more experienced and equally talented “chanters,†earned him the respect of the streets as well developed his confidence and ability to send a crowd into a frenzy.
In 2000, Keegan Taylor’s talent proved to be undeniable when he captured the first ever national school’s Soca monarch title, singing “Election 2000†his own composition, securing his place in history forever.
In 2001 he released his first album called Genesis, an effort that was looked upon by the music industry at that time, as a promising sign of things to come and it was believed as a result, that the culture was in safe hands. Keegan however decided to return to university to continue his education pursuing his bachelors in business management. His tenure there proved to be more than just academic as his experiences provided inspiration for style and fueled his creativity impacting his style immensely.
Keegan has since then worked with the likes of KMC who produced his internationally acclaimed track “Illusions†and has collaborated with other top artistes such as Maximus Dan and Ghetto Flex. He graced the stage with the legends of the calypso and soca arena such as Scrunter, Pink Panther and Lord Funny as well as Bunji Garlin, Machel Montano and Shurwayne Winchester.
His new release “Tease Me†is just a taste of the lyrical versatility and creativity that this artiste possesses. With the ability to command other languages such as Portuguese and Spanish into his songs, he creates a tapestry of melodies and story lines with his words that are a wonder to experience.
