About Me

Durban Alternative Bands has been established in order to unite our scene and grow it into something strong and long-lasting. The project is totally non-profit based and is meant to be a service to the people of the Durban Alternative Community.
The idea was spawned when Site creator Brynn Huxtable came across a similar project being run from Cape Town. The project was created for Metal bands all around South Africa to promote themselves and their music and to strengthen the Metal Scene in our country. Seeing the brilliance of this idea, Brynn began to wonder how feasible it would be to apply a similar concept locally, but in a more Universal way...
And so "Durban Alternative Bands" was formed - instead of promoting a specific genre for a large region, "DAB" aims to promote all genres within the Alternative Realm in a specific region - namely Durban and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Ben Ceglowski lent his creative design skills to the site and created our logo. In early 2007, Martina Gilli joined management, ensuring that gigs were always advertised and attended. Later in 2007 DAB also created a Facebook page, and Amy-Sue Crabtree and Sarah Colville joined the management team as well. 2008 welcomed Teddy Cipolla to the team. Our fan base continues to expand, both on Myspace and Facebook, as more and more people get the word out about what we do.
"DAB," aims to promote bands by giving them a permanent space on the site in the form of banners - these banners are headlined by a brief description of the band's style and their name, and each banner contains a link to the band's personal Myspace page. Bands also get a chance to promote their music by appearing on our playlist...a playlist runs for 3 weeks and all bands are given an equal opportunity to advertise their music in this manner. To appear on the playlist, a band must book a slot in advance and provide "DAB" management with a link to a selected MP3 so that it can be downloaded and added to the playlist. Bands may also make use of our gig guide for the KZN region - bands need to simply inform us of their shows and we will add it to our online Gig Calendar! Bands and fans may also make comments regarding the site or their gigs, music and so on. The more input we get from the music community, the more we can give back!!!!
So if you do your part, we pledge to do what we can to strengthen the scene and get Durban bands the exposure they deserve! We will only survive through co-operation and unity, so make sure you join us and SUPPORT YOUR SCENE!
