1 year ago you left this world for the next, & we, your family, & friends, have been forced to live without you. Some days have been hard. Those are the days that began with an image of your face & the realization that your not here & it just gets worse as the day goes by until finally, blessed sleep makes the pain go away. Some days though, are a bit easier & we can laugh at funny things & take a little joy in something or someone. Some days we think of you & smile or even laugh & some days we can't do anything but picture you as we all saw you for the last time. Sometimes we just get through the day all the while feeling empty like a part of us is missing. Good days, good times good moments are always bitter sweet Sweet for what ever they are bitter because you're not physically here to share them with us.
So... We have proven that we can "live" without you simply because, good or bad, we wake up everyday. And each day takes us to the next day. And... Day by day that exquisitely breathtaking pain we all felt when you died becomes more like a dull throbbing ache in our hearts. Those of us that loved you David we see you everywhere a beat up Maverick on the road would we have ever noticed that car before? a deck of cards in the strangest of places. A fat brown & white jack Russell terrier that makes you take a step back & say "kinda big for a jack Russell huh?" We hear you everywhere in every hip hop song you liked new ones that we know you're jamming to now. We feel you everytime we get into our cars & turn on the ignition.
David, we know that you are always with us, & we all take the teeniest tinniest bit in comfort in knowing with absolute certainty that where ever you are when your not with us, the music in the kitchen louder than hell that you go and an ass kicking hand of cards & you're about to win the jackpot, that you've got a full pack of smokes & that you are surrounded by cool people.
As for us, although, we continue to mourn you, we are hopeful for the future & for some happier times.
Your best friend Jacob has just celebrated the birth of his son whom he has named after you a testimony of never ending friendship & a living legacy. You Mom, Christie, & Aunt Linda have just spent the last few months renovating a pet supply/grooming/doggie daycare which they lovingly dedicated to your precious memory. And soon you will be an Uncle (again) when Christie gives birth to your niece or nephew. Hopefully there will be more happy times on the horizon for all of us who died a little bit on May 4, 2006, along with you. These little bright spots of happiness are what keeps us going. So please Dear David watch over us; watch out for the little David your namesake and help his parents make a good life for him. help guide lots of customers to this beautiful little store so that it thrives. Help your Dad, David help him to be able to laugh again & find some happiness. Let your Mom feel your presence every now & then. She lives for those precious moments when she can actually feel you. Protect Christie & her little one this baby will bring new life & happiness to your family & they really need it because they have suffered greatly. Let your friend feel you hand on their shoulders when they need it most. We all love you David & we will miss you until, one by one you greet us at the gates of heaven. Until then farewell Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Uncle, & Friend

May 4th is a day that will never be forgotten for me. Marcella's letter above brought tears to my eyes. I continue to be amazed at how special David was. I never met him, but I'm connected to him through the tragedy of that day, but more importantly by the love you all feel for him. I wish I had gotten the chance to cross paths with David in another way. I know I would have liked him. Tomorrow was not sneaking up on me. I still think about him. He (and all of you) have been very present in mind over the last week or so with the anniversary coming tomorrow. I will think good thoughts for all the joy he brought in his short time here on earth. I will also shed a tear for your loss of his day by day presence.
