About Me

Welcome to a work in progress by former reporter/editor and lifelong freelance writer Cyndi Perkins. I'm only just learning that it's OK to express my opinion publicly. For a little shy of 10 years, I was a journalist at The Daily Mining Gazette in Houghton, near the tip of Michigan's exquisite Upper Peninsula. While I managed to get a few things off my chest and offend a great many people while plying my trade at the Dreary Whining Gazette, there are guidelines of neutrality and objectivity that held me back from the nitty gritty. This site is my venue for learning to let go and truly express myself. For the last 10 years my husband Scott and I have cruised the waters of Lake Superior and Eastern North America on our sailboat Chip Ahoy, living aboard the boat for 14-18 months at a time. The people we have met, the wildlife we have encountered and the experiences we've shared make me one of the richest women on the planet - even though I have to waitress and write articles to pay the bills and put groceries in the galley. I hope my site can be a link in a circle of family, friends and acquaintances who believe that love is the guiding force in our lives and that peace in our world can be achieved if we come together. Sounds really hippie for a 70s girl, but man, those cool cats from the 60s really had some great ideas about diplomacy, common courtesy and, as Bill & Ted said a couple decades later, "Being excellent to each other."

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Fidel Castro, Mick Jagger, Barbara Walters, Condeleeza Rice, Al Gore and Walter Cronkite. Rosie O'Donnell, Donald Trump, Don Imus and Lil, the woman who started Coyote Wild. And that's just for starters - more to be added later. I also enjoy people from every walk of life who enjoy speaking intelligently and honestly about current events in their lives and in the world.

Bite Me: The Things That Tick Me Off

Suppressing anger and outrage isn't a healthy human habit. Every once in a while we need a good vent. It's my time to let off some steam and bring the teakettle back to simmer. Blame in on the two ful...

Bite me: No Mo Condos

Bite Me: The Iran Theory

Iran really hasn't been a country for all that long and that is why it is still volatile. I still have a world globe that names it Persia. Iran was Persia back in the day when the Middle East was exot...

My hair is turning gray

I am 47 and have never dyed my hair, except for a conditioning henna paste with red highlights that I used every six months when I was able to buy Nestle Brand henna for hair in drug stores in the 198...

Getting Green for Gore

I have adored Al Gore since he was a mere southern senator following in his daddy's respectful footsteps plus fighting for satellite TV technology. He did not invent the internet, but he's always had ...

A call to all Michigan residents

Brainstorm for Michigan now. That's my motto and plea to all Michigan residents. If you have an idea about how to turn the pathetic state of the economy around, let's throw it out on the table. J...

Waiting for the World To Change

I apologize to my Food and Beverage (F&B) colleagues for an oversight. In my last blog I vented about tipping without mentioning a pet peeve that goes hand-in-hand: separate checks. Perhaps I was ...
