About Me

"the knowledge of the soul - knowledge in eternity, without reference to the here and now - not hidden behind the language of the intellect." My Story, by John Holland: My childhood seemed normal to me while I was going through it but looking back I'm beginning to wonder....my mother breast fed me through a straw for starters and the only bath toys I recall having as a toddler were a toaster and a radio. When I was about seven the house caught fire and my parents said to my siblings: "Be quiet, you'll wake up your brother!". As I got older, my thoughts changed to the fairer sex, but I didn't do so well there. So I consulted a friend of mine who was a real ladies man and asked him how he attracted so many women. He told me that I should stick a potato down my trousers to attract them. But that didn't work for me as the girls in school who once just ignored me now looked at me in disgust....it was THEN I realized I was supposed to put the potato down the FRONT of my trousers, not the back *sigh*.....Finally I did get a girlfriend, but all we did was argue about money & sex....she charged me too much! Anyway, landed in NYC during it's "golden age" became a pretty busy session & gigging drummer in the 80's, 90's & 00's and got a chance to play with a myriad of talented, well known & or notorious artists in some of the best studios & clubs in NYC. I have a soft spot in my heart for places I played at like The Ritz, CBGB's, Zone DK, Cafe Wha, Cat Club, The Underground, Peppermint Lounge, Trax, JP's, Kenny's, Lizmar, Limelight, King Tut's Wha Wha Hut, Hit Factory & Quad. And some of the personalities surrounding those places like Terri Kennedy, Bob Roland & Baird Jones to name a few. Interestingly enough, while NYC is a hotbed of postmodernist, liberal, democratic "idealism"...after 30 years of living amidst it I became so turned off & contemptuous of the "politically correct" set, I ended up a conservative...go figure....The Rock & Roll Republican! These days I temper my musical interests with the activities listed here:Philosophy, Psychology, Certified Hypnotherapist ABH-IACT, Spirituality, Physics & Metaphysics, anything Art Deco, composing & playing music, rollerblading, animals (especially my cat Caitlin who died peacefully in my arms 1-27-07 after a short illness), working out, volunteer work as time permits.Vintage TV programs (Honeymooners, Burns & Allen, Hogan's Heroes, Cheers etc), Learning Channel, History Channel, Animal Planet, Monty Python, Benny Hill, Keeping up AppearancesBooks: Philosophy & Spirituality...anything by Descartes, Kant, Einstein, John Talbot, music history, Biographies & Non FictionMyspace Backgrounds

Influences: Pretty much anything I've ever heard has influenced me in one way or another. anything CRAFTY from the 60's thru the 80's mostly (straight rock, funk, blues, new wave) ...Beatles, Stones, Mothers of Invention (pre 73 Mothers that is!) Robert Johnson, Bruce Cockburn, Peter Wolf, Zappa, Buckwheat Zydeco, Sonny Landreth, Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, Chris Whitley, Phil Ochs, Aimee Mann, Johnny Cash, David Byrne, Bo Diddley, Lightnin' Hopkins, Blind Willie Johnson, Johnny Winter, Ani DiFranco, selected fusion, hard rock, heavy metal.... Drumming influences: Charlie Watts, Mitch Mitchell, Neil Peart, Bobby Chiounard, Stewart Copeland, Terry Bozzio, Ringo, Billy Cobham and unknown local drummers I heard growing up, most influential being Mark Kaplan from Brooklyn who now plays with Three Sheets to the Wind. As far as guitar goes I'm a little more open since I'm not really a guitarist (though I play one on TV). I work strictly in open tunings so I gravitate towards players who do likewise. Below are some videos of artists I've worked with. April Anderson (featuring Grammy Award winning Larry Mitchell & Vince Genella) & Baby Jane.....more to follow....
