Waubonsie Valley High School is throwing some national flavor into the homecoming mix. The Student Council has hired Abstract Rhythms to provide the entertainment for its dance in October. That means three nationally known deejays, DJ Rhythm, DJ Legacy and DJ NRG, will mix it up during the dance. "We can truly offer something new and different this year," said Michele Brown, assistant principal and activities director at Waubonsie Valley. "The deejays in the past we have always had a great response to, but by adding these guys into the mix we can offer three different dances with three different flairs." DJ Rhythm, whose real name is Don Sparks, tours with the ESPN Gridiron Blowout Tour for college football games. He also was featured on MTV's "My Super Sweet 16" show as the deejay and producer for an episode. Abstract Rhythms is based in Atlanta. However, the group hopes to soon become a fixture in the Chicago area with an office opening soon. "This is something fun and different for us and will allow us to break into the market up there (in the Chicago area)," Sparks said. Jason Hyman, known as DJ NRG, also is helping the students with everything from decorating the gymnasium to the music at the pep assembly. Although he wouldn't reveal everything in store, he promised students wouldn't be disappointed. "There is going to be a huge surprise," said Hyman, who has been a deejay in Atlanta for 10 years. Also featured that night will be MC Sunnie Dae, another Abstract Rhythms fixture. Although Brown did not disclose how much the student council is spending on the deejays, she did say ticket prices were raised to help accommodate the cost. "After meeting with the deejays, I talked with the student council about if they were willing to make adjustments to bring this level of entertainment to Waubonsie," Brown said. "They thought it through and realized it was worth it." Advance ticket prices were raised from $10 to $15 this year, Brown said. Despite the increase, she said the $15 price tag is more in line with ticket prices at surrounding schools. The price for tickets at the door remains the same, at $20. "This will be a homecoming the students won't forget," Brown said. Britt Carson
