About Me
The band technically started two years ago when I (Whitney) met Micah, the current lead guitarist. We had originally met the night of our high school homecoming, in which both of us didn’t attend, due to the ridiculous amount of hype our school put into a couple of streamers and a boom box. Later, while we were raiding an abandoned hotel, he noticed some of the words I was spray-painting on a wall. He found it to be poetry; I found it to be mere entertainment. We began to hang out more, realizing that we shared much the same passion for the same kind of music: that of pure, head-bashing, ass-kicking, punk rock. He found out I played guitar; I found out he played guitar, and we decided that we should play guitar together. We jammed one night over at his house and were able to pump out some quick, double-time punk riffs that we would later attach to songs like “Fred’s on Meds†and “Buried.†It was then that we decided to put together a band, even if it was to be a mediocre one.
What was difficult was finding kids who were just a passionate as we were to play with us.
Eventually, we prevailed. Micah began talking to Japanese punk rocker and long-time friend Stin Tribby about singing for us, which he was totally hyped about. Thus forth, we dubbed ourselves The Classifieds, not really a band, but definitely not just your typical, no-good, unmotivated kids with guitars either. We wrote music and practiced with every chance we were given. It would be a rigorous couple of months as new musicians came and went, Micah, Stin, and me still holding strong and playing together when we could. Technically speaking, "Fred's on Meds" was the first of our songs. As with songs like "Mirror Love" and "A Tail from Russia," "Fred's on Meds" was one of those songs that we created out of a random riff from unorganized jam sessions, but were able to write an entire storyline, plus music and background vocals, within the first few minutes of playing it again.
We then proceeded to adopt our fourth member Davis Gaul. He became a core member of the the band when Micah witnessed his incredible bass skills (think of a young Matt Freedman times two... yeah, talent). Instead of going off on the notion of changing our music to a more ska-oriented sound (Davis also played the trumpet, but was better at bass), we kept all of the old songs and began tightening up our sound. There was never really a drummer; however, Micah’s brother Jeremy, after much begging and pleading on his part, decided to assist us. As we progressed, The Classifieds soon faded into nothingness and a better, stronger, and, well, cooler name arose. We became The Introverts because of the fact that we are introverted people, people on their own path in life, each with his or her own passions, and we came together for the mere reason of making unrefined, raw, passionate music. Our sound has developed into one that some people have said they have never heard before: a kind of avant-garde, hardcore punk, surf sound that is sure to make you want to punch someone in the face. We are currently in the process of recording the rest of our album "Saving the World, One Quaker at a Time." All was going well, until our beloved Davis left us for California.
We were lost, confused. We felt abandoned. We were left high and dry in the ways of talented musicians in the Vail Valley. We thought we were all but washed up, until we found new bassist Donnie and new drummer Mike. We are now tuning up our guitars for upcoming shows and continuing to practice as much as possible. The Introverts live to basque in the lights of the stage for one more day, perhaps another, and another, but one more after that might be pushing it. Viva punk rock!
