About Me

LET THE BEAUTY YOU LOVE BE WHAT YOU DO...I'm on the quest to make that a consistent truism in every aspect of my life. It's tough! Society and human nature tries to force us to fit neatly into boxes...black or white, straight or gay, this or that, blah, blah, blah. I am a person who never has fit into these boxes and frankly (in my adult life) it has afforded me the greatest freedom albeit at a high emotional price. My very existence challenges conventions and rules about what is right and wrong and what we are "supposed" to do and how we are "supposed" to be. I never have and never will adjust my beliefs or convictions just to suit other people be it my black brothers and sisters, my LGBT brothers and sisters, my family, my friends, my enemies, WHOEVER. That has simultaneously made me a source of inspiration and a target of hatefulness all of my life...BUT I'm still here. To learn more about me, check out my blog: The Empress Strikes Back.

My Interests

Music--The Lord has blessed me with some tremendous gifts. I play 6 instruments (violin, viola, cello, piano, oboe, and percussion), I sing, and I compose. I wake up with music in the morning, go to sleep with it at night, dream about it, and listen or play it every day. It is my passion, my gift, and my salvation. When I grow up, I hope to become an oscar winning film composer and songwriter to the stars.I also love fashion, pageants (Miss America, USA, Universe, World, Venezuela), dancing, hanging out with friends, funny and scary movies. I'm also a sucker for beautiful men--especially if they are smart, stylish, and can dance!

I'd like to meet:

Cool, interesting, geniune, and open-minded people. Looking to reconnect with old friends as well. On October 25, I got to perform for Halle Berry, so I can scratch her off of my list of folks to meet...btw Halle is a genuinely sweet and lovely woman. You can also find me on facebook.com as well under my name, Martina Williams in the Atlanta, Ga. network. You can IM me at gruvizndaheart on AIM. .. ..

Music:

My tastes are eclectic like me. Generally speaking, I love anything that moves my soul. I've been reading and writing since I was 10 months old...playing music since the age of 4. I received most of my training in Richland School District Two in Columbia, S.C. I went to the most awesome schools where my creativity was not only encouraged but fortified. At the age of 15, I performed at Carnegie Hall with the Richland School District Two Orchestra. At the age of 17 through the encouragement of two of my music teachers, Craig Duensing and Brent Wilson, I entered the Archibald Rutledge Celebration of the Fine Arts music composition contest sponsored by The South Carolina Department of Education. As a result, I was selected as one of the top 3 young composers in my state. My biggest musical influences are Prince, Quincy Jones, Bach, Mozart, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Puccini, Sasha, BT, Hybrid, Mariah Carey. Beyonce and Diddy have a great ear for music also. My musical point of view is long, layered, lush, and gorgeous and memorable...COUNTERPOINT like crazy...sort of like Tiramisu, if you will. Any of the ingredients in Tiramisu can stand on it's own BUT when you put 'em together...you get a mouthful of something wonderful and you never forget how it looks or tastes!

Movies:

The Color Purple, Get Real, Anything by Quintin Tarantino Friday, Player's Club, Kings and Queens of Comedy, Notting Hill, Most of Eddie Murphy's Flicks, Spike Lee's Joints, A Lesson Before Dying, and the list goes on...

Television:

MTV, Food Network, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model, Top Chef, American Idol, CNN, The Price is Right, 70's/80's/90's Sitcoms. I'm a hopeless romantic, sensitive, passionate, and have a wicked sense of humor so I love anything that makes me laugh...or cry.

Books:

I'm more of a magazine person. I love fashion magazines most.

Heroes:

My Heavenly Father, My Mom and Dad, My Family, My best friend Danny Walker, My drag father Quron Hicks, My drag mother Nicole Roberts, Tommie Ross, The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Bob Barker, All my closest and dearest friends and fans--especially my GPC, Joe's, Blake's and Nickiemoto's friends. Prince, Quincy Jones, Bach, Mozart, Jascha Heifetz, Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Lance Armstrong, Superman, Wonder Woman, Brian Kinney (QAF),& All of my music teachers (past and present)Chyna Girl, Fantasy, Avon, Nadja, Deja, and Saigon taught me to be fierce! Any good and loving person who has the courage to be who they are in spite of what society thinks of them or what their circumstances be...and whichever bitch agrees to hold the microphone whilst I'm playing the violin. You should get special digs in Heaven for doing that!

My Little Ephiphanies

This past year, I have felt like Bill Murray's character in Groundhog Day.  Like if I wake up one more time to The Puxsutawney Polka I'm going to lose my mind!  But the more I think about th...

2008: A Return To Innocence

Wow.  It's hard to believe this year is almost over.  It's even harder to believe we all made it out alive.  I definitely think there is a general consensus that 2007 was a year that we...

A Matter of Time

As much as I hate to admit it, I have an obsessive personality.  Not in a stalker or a mass murderer kind of way.  But in the kind of way that when I get my mind fixated on something, I obse...
