STATEMENT

The art of Brenda Stumpf invokes ancient and universal archetypes by way of myth and metaphor. A ceaseless intrigue held for the unknowable and unseen is demonstrated in her sculpture, assembled paintings and works on paper. Such references as the mythic and historic figures of Pandora, Black Madonna and Hapshetsut appear throughout her work, as do themes drawn from the Crusades and Inquisitions, alchemy and sacred sexuality. Works of composer Arvo Pärt and the poetry of Pablo Neruda are also influential elements.
