About Me
Yannis was born on the 4th of August 1976 in Athens, Greece, where he spent most of his early childhood, half the time riding his bicycle in the company of friends, and the other half, fighting with his brother, being allergic to most substances on earth and reading books to help cure his inherent panic of knowing he possessed a limited vocabulary (a clear obstacle in his way of always trying to express his complicated opinions on everything whenever it was asked of him, but especially when it was not). ............................................................
................ Around 1982, he was introduced to a whole new experience that was meant to greatly affect and shape his future: His parents took him to the cinema for the first time in his short life. The first film he ever saw that evening was ‘E.T. The Extra Terrestrial’. It proved to be a most powerful experience and Yannis (about 6 years old then) was now old enough to understand that he was officially and eternally hooked. He spent the next several years going to the cinema and watching myriads of rented videos of all genres. Surprisingly enough, he somehow found time to study, eventually managing to get two Degrees from UK’s Bournemouth University’s Media School: A BA in Advertising Management and an MA in TV & Video Production. ............................... Right after university, Yannis returned to Greece where he spent 18 months in various parts of the Greek mainland, as part of a compulsory army service. This was when he did over 1000 hours of standing-guard duty, time mostly spent in quiet introspection (interrupted only by mosquitoes) and daydreaming about the meaning of life and his film-making part in it. During this year-and-a-half he saw the sun rise over 300 times. ................... Yannis is bilingual (Greek & English), doesn’t smoke or drink coffee, but loves chocolate. Tends to listen to loud music while driving and adores penguins. Favourite book of all time is The Little Prince, while favourite movie of all time is of course ‘E.T. The Extra Terrestrial’. Also ‘The Big Blue’ (by Luc Besson) is a near second. His international travelling destinations have included United Kingdom, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Morocco, New York City & Boston. ....................... Yannis is passionate about films, he hopes he can keep making them for the rest of his life, and beyond. For the time being, he still goes to the cinema about twice a week.
