About Me

Severine Devereaux was briefly a band. Now under this enduring moniker, I lug my Hammond and theremin across town, happy to earn a cab fare from any Lynchian club or old man pub that'd have me... and am now a fully fledged member of Chilean/Parisian mentalists El Gran Chufle.
It's all about grinding Hammonds, sultry Farfisas, spooky theremins, bone-rattling xylophones, surf and fucked-up guitars, rumbling 60s beats and carnivale percussion (more os mutantes than latin cruise ship) and free jazz saxophonic rantings... in a kind of homebaked homage to anything weird and texturally interesting...

Artrocker Review of Men Of Leisure EP - 30th November 2007
"...This is a bare boned EP, punctuated by simplistic cowbells, whistling solos and Hammond organs. ‘Samoa’ could be a really stripped down Blondie number, while ‘Monsters’ has a B-movie quirkiness which would lend itself well to a Russ Meyer soundtrack. Meanwhile, the record ends up in a different place entirely, with ‘Warm Sand’ suggesting the invention of the Electrosurf genre. Overall it's a strangely distant eyed journey, full of exotic diversions and innovative ideas. It's the kind of record that gets your dog barking at the hi fi system like it’s some kind of Poltergeist intruder – and for that it’s to be commended..."

Francis Bacon

Went to the Francis Bacon exhibition at the Tate today. Was like trespassing on someone else's nightmare. There was flesh strewn about the place, albeit carefully housed in geometric spaces. Cadave...

Chileans and Parisians

Pedro and I caught the Eurostar to Paris for the weekend. Under the channel and away we went. The band with the French name off to the continent to make music with two Chileans and a Frenchman. Mus...

ATP

ATP was splendid.  It was hot and sunny and nice and sweaty in the venue.  Highlight on Friday night was Ween.  Most of the festival was downstairs watching Fuck Buttons at the time, so...

Morocco

Morocco was crazy- amazing and exhausting. A colourful place full of contradictions. Flew into Marrakech by myself- headscarf and sunglasses on, head down. Lauren arrived the next day- it was much ...

North Wales for a xylophone

El Padre and I drove a 500 mile return trip to North Wales today to pick up a concert xylophone from a lovely man called Ken. We had cups of tea and a good chat with Ken as his lounge room filled up ...
